Gayle Conelly Manchin Hospitalized After Car Accident

Former West Virginia Secretary of Education Injured in Birmingham

Gayle Conelly Manchin, the former West Virginia Secretary of Education and wife of Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), was hospitalized on Tuesday after a car accident in Birmingham, Alabama.

According to a statement from Senator Manchin's office, Mrs. Manchin was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a collision with another vehicle at approximately 1:30 p.m. CST.

Mrs. Manchin was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment of her injuries. Her condition is currently unknown. The other driver involved in the accident was treated for minor injuries and released from the scene.

The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
