Phil Collins: Legendary Musician and Songwriter

Early Life and Career

Philip David Charles Collins LVO was born on January 30, 1951, in Chiswick, London, England. His father was an insurance agent, and his mother was a theatrical agent. Collins began playing drums at an early age and joined his first band, Freehold, at the age of 16. In 1970, he joined the band Genesis as their drummer and later took over as lead singer in 1975.

Success with Genesis

With Genesis, Collins achieved great success both as a drummer and a singer. The band released a string of hit albums, including "Selling England by the Pound" (1973), "A Trick of the Tail" (1976), and "Duke" (1980). Collins's distinctive drumming style and powerful vocals became a hallmark of Genesis's sound.

Solo Career

In the early 1980s, Collins began a successful solo career. His debut album, "Face Value" (1981), was a commercial success and featured the hit singles "In the Air Tonight" and "I Don't Care Anymore." Collins continued to release successful solo albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including "No Jacket Required" (1985), "...But Seriously" (1989), and "Both Sides" (1993).
